Everything here is forged to order, which changes the answer to most of the usual questions. These are the ones we are actually asked.
Orders and timing
Nothing is on a shelf, so every answer here starts from the forge.
How long until my order ships?
One to two weeks. Every piece is made to order: forged, sized and finished after you buy it. Transit time is on top of that, and engraving can add a day or two. Full detail on the shipping page.
Can I get it faster for a specific date?
Sometimes. Tell us the date before you order and we will give you a straight answer rather than a hopeful one.
Can I cancel or change my order?
Within 2 days of ordering, yes, as long as we have not already cut metal. Sizes and engraving text can usually be corrected in the first day or two, so tell us quickly.
Sizing
The single most useful message you can send us before ordering.
What sizes do you make?
US 4 to 16 in half sizes, which is twenty-five sizes. Quarter sizes and anything below US 4 are available as a custom order; just ask.
How do I find my size?
Measure a ring you already wear on that finger, or measure the finger with a paper strip. The ring size guide has the full chart in millimetres and explains the common mistakes.
Do wide bands fit differently?
Yes, and this catches people out. A wide band fits tighter than a narrow one in the same nominal size. At 8 mm, go up a quarter to a half size; above 8 mm, half a size.
What if it does not fit when it arrives?
Forged bands cannot be stretched the way cast ones sometimes can, so a new ring has to be made. What it costs depends on whose mistake it was:
- We sent the wrong size. Our error, and it costs you nothing. Send it back with the prepaid label we provide and we forge the correct size free, shipping included.
- The wrong size was ordered. We remake it at half the original price and you cover shipping. The original is yours to keep. We cannot refund a ring made to the size you specified, because it cannot be sold to anyone else.
Either way, email us with your order number. Full terms in the refund policy.
Materials
Every metal photographed and explained on the care guide.
Will Damascus steel rust?
Carbon Damascus can, if you leave it wet. Dry it after washing your hands, keep it out of pools and the sea, and wipe it with a drop of oil now and then. Stainless Damascus and Damasteel are much more forgiving and need no oiling at all. The product page tells you which one you are looking at.
Is the colour on the titanium rings a coating?
No. It is heat anodizing: an oxide layer grown on the surface with heat and current. There is nothing to chip or flake off. It can be abraded away by polishing compound, so clean gently.
Is the black zirconium plated?
No. The surface is oxidised into a hard black ceramic, so it cannot wear through the way plating does. A hard knock against stone can still chip it.
Are these hypoallergenic?
Titanium, zirconium and Timascus are all excellent for sensitive skin. Mokume gane contains nickel and copper, and copper can leave a harmless temporary green mark. If you have a known nickel allergy, stick to titanium or zirconium, or ask us.
What actually is superconductor?
Reclaimed niobium-titanium filament in a copper matrix: genuine cable from particle accelerators and MRI magnets, etched to expose the honeycomb structure inside. Supply is finite. When a billet runs out, that piece is gone.
Engraving and custom work
Included, and confirmed with you before anything is cut.
Do you charge for engraving?
Not at the moment. On any piece we can engrave you will find Add an engraving on the product page itself, just above the Add to cart button. Open it, choose where the text goes and type it in before you add to cart. We confirm the layout with you before cutting, so read that confirmation carefully: once it is cut into forged steel it cannot be undone. See the engraving page.
Which pieces cannot be engraved?
Bentwood and wood-inlay rings, superconductor bands and ring sets, beaded bracelets, lanyard beads and bead holders, the Time Gear charms, and the dice. On those the engraving field is simply not shown. Ask us if you had something in mind.
Can you make something that is not on the site?
Usually. A different width, a metal combination you have seen on another piece, a size outside the range, a matching set. Send us the idea.
Shipping and returns
Shipping is free wherever you are. Final sale, with real exceptions.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, and shipping is free wherever you are, with no minimum order. Import duties and VAT are a separate thing: they are set by your own country, collected by the carrier, and not included in what you pay us.
Can I return an item if I change my mind?
No. Everything is forged to order, in your size, your width, your engraving, so a returned piece cannot go back into stock, because there is no stock.
What we do cover, without argument: anything faulty, damaged in transit, or not what you ordered. Tell us within 14 days of delivery with photographs and we will replace it or refund you in full, shipping included. Full terms in the refund policy.
Anything else? Ask us. A real person answers.
